Overheating transmission / fluid is a common cause of transmission failure. Transmission solenoid failing can also cause warning light to come on. High transmission fluid temperatures can be the result of heavy towing, hot weather, old or low fluid levels. If the light comes on while driving, pull over and leave the engine to run at idle until the light goes off. The RAM 2500 / 3500 transmission fluid warning light comes on when the transmission fluid is high.

In newer models, a software update may fix the issue. Gas pedals are no longer physically connected to the engine throttle which results in failing sensors in the throttle pedal unit, often as a result of wear-and-tear. Have diagnostics on the truck as it may reveal fault codes. With the light on, you may experience reduced performance and rough engine idle, know as limp mode or reduced engine power mode. If the light remains lit after starting the engine, the vehicle is usually drivable. If the light come son while driving, pull over, select park and cycle the ignition. The RAM 2500 / 3500 ETC warning light (red lightening bolt is the Electronic Throttle Control) may stay on or flash when there’s a problem with the electronic throttle control system. Overheated oil quickly breaks down, losing it’s lubricating properties and leaving deposits inside the engine which may cause damage and increased fuel consumption. If the light comes on while driving, pull over and switch off the engine as soon as possible. The RAM 2500 / 3500 oil temperature warning light comes on when the oil temperature is high. Only continue to drive the truck if the low oil pressure light goes off as it can otherwise result in severe engine damage.
The low oil pressure light can be a symptom of low oil levels, so check and add oil if required. If the low oil pressure light comes on while driving, pull over and immediately switch off the engine. This means that oil may not be circulating and therefore lubricating engine components properly. The RAM 2500 / 3500 oil warning light comes on when oil pressure in the engine is low. When engine is sufficiently cool, check coolant levels, water pump / belts and check for leaks. If the engine temperature does not begin to decrease, switch off the engine as continued operation may cause damage. If the air conditioning is on, switch it off. If the coolant light comes on while driving, pull over and leave the engine to idle. The RAM 2500 / 3500 coolant warning light comes on in red indicating an overheated engine condition. Have your truck brake system serviced immediately. EBD distributes brake force to independent wheels allowing for improved braking efficiency. If the ABS and the red BRAKE warning light both illuminate together, it means the EBD system has a fault. Versions of the RAM 2500 / 3500 that come equipped with ABS will also be equipped with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD). The usual cause for an ABS failure is one of the wheel speed sensors malfunctioning. Your truck’s normal brakes will operate as usual, but without the ABS. The RAM 2500 / 3500 ABS warning light (anti-lock braking system) remaining on means there’s a problem detected. An indication that it’s a brake booster fault is that the ABS pump will run when applying the brake and you’ll feel a pulsation through the brake pedal. If the parking brake is off and the brake fluid is at the correct level, it may indicate a problem with the brake hydraulic system or a problem with the brake booster has been detected by the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) / Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. If the brake fluid is low and requires frequent topping up, it usually indicates a leak in the dual brake system. The RAM 2500 / 3500 brake warning light comes on due to either the parking brake being applied or if the parking brake is off and the brake warning light remains lit, then the brake fluid level is low or that there is a problem with the Anti-Lock Brake System reservoir. The usual reason why the airbag light stays on is due to crash sensors, the seat belt buckle not securely clipping int place or sometimes the cables / connection to the seat belt pretensioner under the front seats has become dislodged. The light remains illuminated along with an audible alert if a fault has been detected with the airbag. The RAM 2500 / 3500 airbag warning light stays illuminated for between 4 to 8 seconds as a bulb check when the ignition is switched to on. Dashboard display design and warning light location will vary depending on your version model and year of manufacture.
This includes some modern systems that older versions of the RAM truck may not have.
